  • A round lump, usually movable, with different edges. The lump may be small or can it can be as big as a ping pong ball.
  • Pain in the breast around the lump and it worsens during pregnancy and the second half of menstrual cycle.
  • The size of the lump increases before menstrual cycle.
  • The size of the lump decreases after menstrual cycle.

Normally, breast lumps are normal for women because of the hormonal changes that a woman goes through during their menstrual cycle. 

However, if there are new breast lumps aside from those that you already identified or the size of the breast lumps continue to grow then you need to inform your doctor right away to evaluate your breast lumps further. 

The breast cyst symptoms mentioned above are the tell-tale signs that you need to visit your doctor and have your breasts checked.

Diagnosing breast lumps if they are actual breast cysts can be done through diagnostic procedures such as mammogram, ultrasound, aspiration of the fluid content of the lump, and magnetic resonance imaging. Also, these procedures are done to determine if a breast cyst is benign or malignant.

Moreover, although some breast cysts can be detected through physical assessment, there are cysts which are too small only diagnostic procedures like mammogram can detect its presence. 

This is the reason why women need to have annual breast examination especially when they reach the age of 30 or 40 to determine any abnormalities in the breasts.
