Cancer In Lymph Nodes
Menu
The case of cancer in lymph nodes happens once in every five cancer cases. It involves the presence of cancer cells in the lymph nodes where some of the body fluids used for proper blood circulation is filtered. The cancer cells found in the lymph node may originate from other parts of the body. This is because cancer cells can travel through the bloodstream as the cancer spreads.
What are Lymph Nodes?
The human body acquires a network of lymph nodes and vessels. This network is the one that collects fluid and other things found in tissues. This fluid is called lymph – it carries oxygen and essential nutrients to promote cell growth. It also contains white blood cells to fight infections that can be found throughout the body.
As the lymph travels in the body, it passes the lymph nodes that serve as a filter for harmful substances. When cancer cells get to the lymph nodes, it creates an abnormality that can be very harmful if not detected. This is because the cancer cell grows in the lymph node that might affect the lymph flow in the body. The cancer in lymph nodes can be considered as lymphoma – Hodgkin disease or non-Hodgkin disease.
Hodgkin Disease
This is one type of cancer in lymph nodes that originate from the white blood cells. Since there are many lymph nodes in the human body, it can start almost anywhere. Common symptoms include inflammation of lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin, fevers or chills, chest pains, loss of appetite and weight loss. If you are noticing these changes in your body, it’s best to contact your physician immediately.
A person with non-Hodgkin disease will experience the same symptoms of Hodgkin disease. This is just one type of cancer in the lymphatic system with a different place of origin. This is more common compared to Hodgkin’s disease.
Cancer In Lymph Nodes Treatment
If you’re experiencing the symptoms, proper diagnosis is important to confirm the disease. If the tests (such as physical examination, blood and urine tests, imaging, and biopsy) confirm the cancer cells in the lymph nodes, immediate treatment is necessary.
Chemotherapy is a common treatment procedure that’s used in many cancer cases. This involves the use of chemicals that will destroy cancer cells in your body. It brings many side effects so a patient must be ready (physically and emotionally) before the treatment starts. It’s also best to have a support group especially if the cancer is already mature enough to reduce the chance of successful treatment.
If the cancer in lymph node is detected in its early stage, it can be easily cured. Thus, it’s very important to have a regular checkup especially if your family has a history of cancer. This is because cancer diseases are also affected by hereditary factors. If one of your parents or grandparents suffered this kind of disease, the chance of getting this disease is relatively high. Know more about this disease and learn how to reduce the risk factors along with it.
